Happy Birthday Around the Sun one more time

Kaiser Wilhelm decided that after years of toiling for various “Masters” poor labourers deserved a respite and so it was decreed that anyone surviving to the age of 65 could collect a pension from the state. This was an easy choice as not many survived to that old age.

So here I am at the ripe old age of 60. The official retirement age is “merely” 5 years away.

How do I feel at that prospect.
Dean Charles Stanforth: We seem to have reached the age where life stops giving us things and starts taking them away. (Indiana Jones & the Crystal Skull)
“If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.” (Mae West)
But on the Bright side
“A man is not old until regrets take the place of dreams.” (John Barrymore)

How do I really feel?
Well Kneeling down now requires a “grunt” (I don’t know where that came from). Afternoon naps seem like an ok thing. The Usual aches and pains of joints and muscles well they seem more frequent. My biggest complaint .. How come with all that I still get Zits?

With many thanks to all those who sent me Birthday greetings! I hope to make it for another Spin around our star.

Hello, this all seems very comfortable even though I’m 55 and not quite there yet some of it is right on already. Thank you for sharing and again hope your Birthday still goes on as my Happy Mother’s Day is all weekend long and yeah!

  2. Johnny

Very well said. I was expecting a zinger for an ending, something like you now know the meaning of life and it is………………….. 🙂

John, you will have many more trips around our star and I must say your brief remarks were eloquently put. Looking over my shoulder I see you whizzing about some distance behind me and looking ahead I see the shadow of Kaiser whipping through infinity. He was one helluva character for you to select for a quotation. He was pissed off at life because of his withered arm and got even with life in many ways. One of his favorites was to take out his frustrations by wearing a large metal ring on a finger of his left hand. His left arm was a powerful one as was his attending hand and fingers. It was his delight to shake hands with as many dignataries as he turned the face of his imperial ring inward and gouged the palm and fingers until they yelped. I’m an historian/novelist so it’s my lot to know many unessential things. I hope your birthday was a splendid one. My back and fingers are aching from this writing activity and my hair has thinned almost to a cue ball. Welcome to the future.

Very well stated, but John 5 years as we grow older come in a blink of an eye. I imagine a certain degree of freedom to then pursue your lifetime dreams with enthusiasm and agressiveness without having to worry about how the bills might be paid in the meantime. It will be taken care of, your dreams, should they come to fruition, will take care of the rest. Happy Birthday young man.

  5. The older I get, the more I care. The more I care, the less I judge. The less I judge, the more I enjoy. The more I enjoy, the more I achieve. the more I achieve, the more I lift others up. The more I lift others up, the more they lift me up. The more they lift me up, the more gratitude I learn. The more I learn, the older I get….
